Hello All!

I am somewhat new to running. I tried running before and got shin splints pretty bad so I went back to the elliptical trainer. However, after doing some reading online about proper strike pattern, going to the The Running Store and getting an analysis on my running, as well as getting proper running shoes..., I have started running again. This time around the shin splints are pretty minor. However, my calves are always pretty tight. I do stretch. Also, I read on a running website that someone suggested using golf balls to massage the calf. I have been doing all of these things. It is getting better and I think that I am beginning to adjust but I was wondering about other people's experiences with running. How long does it take for your body to adjust to the running routine?

Hi Rachel - congrats on getting back to running! Personal Trainer (and Olympic running hopeful) Melinda Keesee recently answered this question in our 'Ask the Trainer' feature. You can check it our here:

Sweet!! Thank you. I didn't find it in the initial search. I figured there was something on here about it.
